The Truth

The main difference between "ladies" and standard balls is compression. Lower compression balls compress more easily at slower swing speeds, giving you better distance without swinging harder. It's about your swing speed, not your gender.

What actually is a lob wedge?

A lob wedge has more loft than your sand wedge (typically 58-60 degrees versus 54-56). That extra loft gets the ball up higher and makes it stop faster when it lands.

Think: popping over a bunker to a tight pin, escaping thick rough, or those delicate chips where you need the ball to land soft and not run away from you.

Should you bother?

Short answer: yes! We see women struggling to get bunker shots up and over steep lips with a standard sand wedge. The issue isn't technique - if you don't generate loads of clubhead speed, getting enough height with a 56-degree wedge is genuinely hard.

A 60-degree lob wedge gives you that extra height without swinging harder. The club does the work.

Why bother?

Between November and March, UK golf is a battle. Frozen greens, waterlogged courses, fading daylight by 4pm. Not ideal for working on your game.

But putting? You can genuinely improve that without leaving your house.
